Hi Sad neice,

Thank you for sharing your question.

An Anoxic brain injury which is also called cerebral hypoxia or hypoxic-anoxic injury (HAI) is a serious injury that can cause cognitive problems and disabilities. Anoxic means total lack of oxygen to the brain. The greater the loss of oxygen, the more wide spread or serious the injuries.

The fact that there are signs of life is always a good thing. When someone suffer an injury such as this, it can take them a while to wake up. I know that it is devastating and frustraiting to see your loved one in such a condition, but try your best to stay positive.

There are studies that report hearing family member's voices can be beneficial. So talk to your uncle and let him know you want him to fight. Also talk about regular day to day things and memories as well.

This type of family emergency is very hard on everyone involved, so make sure you eat and get adequate rest so you can maintain and be supportive of your uncle.

I hope his prognosis improves daily.

Be well,
~Gillette
