STD's can be missed on a test depending on the method of testing. However, they are not misdiagnosed. Chlamydia can be missed in a test very easily. It can also stay dormant in the body for years without any symptoms.
It is completely possible for anyone who has had intercourse to contract an STD and then be diagnosed many years later.
