As long as you take the emergency contraception correctly (taking the second pill exactly 12 hours after the first) it will effectively prevent pregnancy.
Side effects can include: bleeding as few days later, cramping, tender breasts and nausea. These symptoms do not indicate pregnancy. They are only side effects.
