Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for reaching out to our community with your questions. I am so sorry to hear that you lost this pregnancy.

Anonymous, you must speak with your gynecologist.

It sounds like you had a miscarriage at 13 weeks into your pregnancy.

The reason for miscarriage is varied, and most often the cause cannot be identified. During the first trimester, the most common cause of miscarriage is chromosomal abnormality – meaning that something is not correct with the baby’s chromosomes.

Anonymous, before you plan for another pregnancy, speak with your physician to possibly identify the cause of this lost pregnancy.

Other causes of a miscarriage include hormonal problems, infections or maternal health problems. Smoking, drug use, malnutrition, excessive caffeine intake, and exposure to radiation and toxic substances increase your risk for a miscarriage.

Why did your friend suggest ampiclox? This drug is an antibiotic prescribed to fight infections.

It can take time before the first period after miscarriage occurs. As your body heals it may take time for your menstrual cycle to return to normal. Your first period after your miscarriage should occur four weeks after the hCG levels return to zero. Your doctor should order blood tests to check this.

Approximately two to six weeks after your miscarriage, you will need to have a follow up examination to access your condition. At this time, ask your doctor how you can best prepare for having a healthy pregnancy.

Sex should be avoided in the time period shortly after the miscarriage. Your cervix will still be open, making you very susceptible to pain and infection. Do not try to have sex or conceive until you have had a regular period.

Regards,
Maryann
