Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for reaching out to our community with your question regarding a missed second Depo-Provera injection and risk for pregnancy.

Depo-Provera is the brand name for medroxyprogesterone, a contraceptive injection for women that contains the hormone progestin. Depo-Provera is given as an injection once every three months. Depo-Provera typically suppresses ovulation, keeping your ovaries from releasing an egg. Depo-Provera also thickens cervical mucus to keep sperm from reaching the egg.

Anonymous, I would assume that you were at risk for becoming pregnant. Without that second dose, your hormone levels returned to normal, you could have ovulated and were no longer protected against pregnancy.

Getting your monthly period will tell you that you didn't become pregnant. If your next expected period is late or you miss it, please test for pregnancy and contact your gynecologist.

Regards,
Maryann
