Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. I am glad you reached out to our community with your question.

Indeed, many women have posted that they were pregnant despite a negative pregnancy test result. Your mother's experience confirms that this is possible.

The American Pregnancy Association warns, "Caution must be used in making too much of hCG numbers. A normal pregnancy may have low hCG levels and result in a perfectly healthy baby. The results from an ultrasound after 5 -6 weeks gestation are much more accurate than using hCG numbers."

Anonymous, have you missed a period?

If you have missed a period, have had unprotected intercourse since your last period, and considering your mother's experience plus having the above mentioned symptoms, consider reaching out to your gynecologist.

Depending how late your period is or if you already missed one, your gynecologist can order a blood hCG test, which is more accurate than a urine test. If it has been five to six weeks since you conceived, an ultrasound can be ordered.

Please keep us updated.

Regards,
Maryann
