Birth control pills are effective in preventing pregnancy if taken correctly. The fact that you had unprotected sex and missed doses, does put you at risk for pregnancy. You are probably not pregnant if you are bleeding, however, the only way to know for sure at this point is to take a pregnancy test. Wait 2 to 2 1/2 weeks from the day you had intercourse. Levels of hCG can be detected in urine about 12 to 14 days following conception. It's always a good idea to have backup birth control to use, like condoms.
