Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. I am glad you reached out to our community on behalf of your girlfriend.

It is good to hear that you practice safe, protected sex.

The menstrual cycle is regulated by a precise balance of hormones. Even the slightest upset can cause a change, such as her period starting irregularly. Intercourse has no effect.

She should consider scheduling an appointment for an exam with a gynecologist. The physician can determine, by obtaining a medical history, ordering any blood tests, and doing a physical exam if there are any reasons for the pain and irregular menstrual cycles.

Prescribing oral contraceptives might make her cycles regular, decrease pain associated with her periods, and provide protection from an unwanted pregnancy.

Regards,
Maryann
