Sciatica is caused by irritation of the root(s) of the lower lumbar and lumbosacral spine. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (such as ibuprofen or naproxen), can reduce the inflammation that is usually part of the cause of pain. Alternating between ice/heat can help also.
