If this activity worries you badly, don't do it. Use a condom to avoid any accidents.

Since you were wearing underwear, there is very little risk but your girlfriend being naked is risky if your underwear could slip to the side etc.
Her period will be a sign she is not pregnant. You are going to have to wait it out.
