Thank you for your message; it is great to know that there is help out there for families struggling with depression (reminding us that it is not just the individual coping with the condition; it affects the entire family).

To my knowledge, we have not had anyone in my immediate family who has been depressed, but it got me thinking about the impact of stress on the family. We all know how much stress can affect us and those around us, especially when not handled in a healthy manner. When either myself or my husband is stressed, we are more irritable, tired, not willing to compromise. Our toddler may get a bowl of rice and beans for dinner for the second night in a row, instead of some veggies; we may not eat healthy, either. The excess stress becomes a strain, as it takes a lot of energy to keep up with the day-to-day maintenance of bills, yard work, cleaning, going to school/work, not to mention social obligations...oh, and also having fun and relaxing!

I can not imagine one of my family members having a more serious, and possibly chronic, condition like depression...it could be absolutely devastating! I hope to hear from others how depression impacted their family.
