To your point, Susan, growing up, my best friend's sister weighed about three pounds at birth. Her grandmother, my neighbor, liked to say she weighed as much as a tub of butter. That's where I first learned the phrase preemie. And you're right, since then, I have come to know many children who were born premature. One had breathing issues at birth and had a hard time eating, but seemed to work through his conditions over time. I could go on and on about women I know who have had premature births, but I'd really be interested in hearing other women's stories about premature births and repeat Susan's questions .... Were you premature or had a preemie baby? How was your experience and how are you or your baby doing now? From your experience, can you shed any light on premature births or are you still as puzzled as the researchers?
