At EmpowHer, we have a health insurance plan that I have some experience with and feel pretty confident about their coverage ... Case in point, my previous employer had used Company A for their insurance for years and switched to Company B (the same as what I have now) with coverage beginning on Jan. 1, 2006.

Well guess what? I broke my foot in three places and severed a tendon on Dec. 31, 2005 (Nope, don't even have a good story to go with it.)

Technically, the new company could've turned down my claim (or so I was told by the emergency room staff) and they could've left me high and dry or fighting with Company A for coverage. But they didn't. In fact, they embraced my claim fully and even reimbursed me for an overcharge on physical therapy about four months later. (I know, I know, they should've paid me back, but these days you never know)

With all of the negativity surrounding health insurance these days, so far, I've been pretty lucky. I couldn't imagine being stuck with nearly $15,000 in medical bills (the total for my surgery, emergency room visit, check ups and three months of physical therapy) so I really feel for Louanne Moldovan. I think you have a point in implying there has to be a better way, but there are no easy answers.

Does anyone have a similar story? Are you confident your insurance will cover your expsenses?
