this year i turned 35, kind of yuck number for me! i was doing the "how did i get so old already?" feel sorry for myself thing for a while, and then coincidentally, a friend told me about this web site, Every Monday Matters. EMM's purpose is to get us to use the yucky-ist day of the week, Monday, to give back, instead of complain. they have a whole web site of awesome ideas to do something meaningful. one of the ideas was to have a giving party, instead of getting. the occasion could be anything, but since my birthday was just a week away, i thought, hey this is definitely a message from God for me! so i invited all the girlfriends i have and told them, don't bring me a present, instead, please bring new crayons and pencils. then at the party we ate yummy treats and used my art supplies to make beautiful pictures. i took all of the crayons, pencils and drawings to a friend who takes supplies to ugandan orphanages (where the kids go crazy over new crayons!). my friends loved it! i loved it! it was a wonderful, feel good birthday, that totally celebrated everything i want to be about in this world. i can't wait to do something similar next year.

i love this question, and can't wait to see how others celebrate their birthdays in healthy ways.
