Men More Likely than Women to Leave Sick Spouse

When Anna received the dreaded call from her doctor in May 2008 that she had breast cancer she thought that was worst day of her life. She was wrong. Just a month later her husband of eleven years left home forever leaving Anna to care for their eight-year-old daughter and undergo treatment alone.

Lung Cancer Prevention

The most common cause of lung cancer is cigarette smoking or passive smoking. Only 10% of sufferers are non-smokers, so the most effective way to prevent lung cancer is to never take up smoking!

First Mammograms, Now Pap Smears

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecology released early Friday that the annual pap smear, given to women in their 20’s to test for abnormalities in their cervix, may not be necessary and women should plan on taking this only every other year. The news came uncomfortably close to federal officials' new statement that women over 50 should begin to have a mammogram every two years as opposed to the original annual exam for women over 40. As new recommendations begin to flood in, what will be the new norm? And what do we do in the mean time?

RECORD AF registry findings were presented at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions. This registry looked at how newly-diagnosed afib patients were being managed in the real world. These results differed from previously-reported research, such as the AFFIRM (Atrial Fibrillation Follow-up Investigation of Rhythm Management) trial.
