Q:

2 negative pregnancy tests but a late period?

I had sex 1 week ago on the Wednesday, and the condom broke. The next morning I took the Leno Lenovelle morning after pill to make sure I was protected. I have taken it once before as I have yet to organise a doctor's appointment and living rurally, need my mum to give me a lift in. I don't feel comfortable telling her about my late period however, which is why I have not seen a doctor. My period was supposed to come the Saturday, the same week as that of the condom breaking, and 1 week later has still not come. I took 2 pregnancy tests, one on the Wednesday after my pissed period and one on the Saturday after my missed period. Both have been negative however. I'm currently really stressed and under pressure, which I know can also delay periods, just as the hormone change from taking the pill. Anyone have any advice as I am really uncertain and scared.

Hi, Rachelle88.

Thank you for reaching out to us.

Home tests are accurate 14-21 days after sex. Bleeding from taking the ECP can take 2-7 days, not all women have bleeding and it can cause a late period. If you don't want to test (at home) again you can have a blood test which is more accurate in the early stages. Or you can wait and see if you get your period (bleeding) so you would know the ECP has worked.
