I am on the combined birth control pills. I have been on them for a while now. . . like 3 weeks ago I missed three birth control pills I am not shore what week it was either the second week or the third week but I think it was the 2nd week because I just finished the orange pills in my pack and started a new pack of BC on Saturday. . . anyways 3 weeks ago I missed Friday's pill because I worked really late and got home late and I forgot to take the pill and then on Saturday I went out and didn't get home until midnight so I took the pill that I missed Friday when I got home "Saturday" midnight so it was already Sunday. I took Sunday's pill as well so I took three pills in ONE DAY ....after that I took all the pills. . September 4, I had sex for the first time with my boyfriend with a condom he ejaculated into a condom before we actually started having sex but changed it before the "real thing" but didn't ejaculate inside of me... and then September 5, we had sex again he used a condom but when he ejaculated he pulled out anyways. . . I did however get my period but it came one day late. I usually get it on Monday's but I got it on Tuesday, September 7 . . . it lasted two days and I guess it was normal Friday was the brown discharge you get after a period. I don't know if I should be worried about pregnancy or was I even protected at all? Are condoms safe even if I am not on birth control? I also wanted to know how if you miss one BC pill you might get pregnant but it says that sometimes when woman stop taking BC it will take them a long time to be able to get pregnant? My only concern here is should I be worried about pregnancy at all here? Thank you for your time -SavLee

Hi Sav,

Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community.

Since you are currently taking birth control pills and your boyfriend is also using a condom you are very well protected against pregnancy.  Even when you missed on pill, you had protected sex with a condom which was very smart.

Condoms are safe to use to prevent STDs and pregnancy, but birth control pills protect you better, because condoms can break.  With regards to it taking longer to get pregnant after being on birth control, each woman is different.

I hope this helps.

Be well,
