Q:

43 day cycle or maybe pregnant?

I am a 29 year old mother of 2 wonderful boys. My husband and I decided after 6 years to try and get pregnant for a girl. My periods average 29 days. March 5th I started my period and was supposed to get my period again on April 3 2010 giving me my 29 cycle days, but instead I didn't get it. I was so excited thinking I was pregnant until I started my period on the 8th of April giving me a 34 day cycle. I had that period for 6 days being lighter in the beginning then one day of heavy bleeding then again lighter bleeding. The blood was more of a mauve color instead of the bright red. So now that I had a 34 day cycle I should have gotten my next period on May 11 2010. It is now May 20th and I again haven't gotten my period. So including today it is a 43 day cycle. I have taken 2 pregnancy test and they both had very very very light blue lines then I took a digital test and it said not pregnant. I don't have sore breast, but I do have a bit of dizziness, nausea, and more heartburn. I have since my last pregnancy pee ALL the time so I can't tell if that would be a symptom or not. I would make a dr. appointment but we don't have health insurance so I don't want to pay out of pocket unless necessary. Please don't judge about the health insurance cause my husband makes good money but it still is hard to shell out $1000 a month for good coverage through his work. What I really want to know is if maybe I could be pregnant or is my period just out of whack this month. Oh also I am no more stress than usual and i have never been on birth control. Thanks again!

Hi Anon
You need to take a pregnancy test to determine where you stand. It would be accurate 14-21 days after unprotected intercourse.

Hi Susan
I took two regular pregnancy test and yes the control line was a very strong blue and the pregnancy line was a very faint line of blue. This was the same result with both test. Each taken within like two days apart. Then I got the digital one yesterday just to make sure and I took it and it said not pregnant. I'm not sure if the digital test isn't as sensitive as the non digital test so I guess I will try and wait a couple more days and test again. Thanks for the response!

Oh and on the regular test when I say faint blue line I mean if you held the test down at arms length you can see the blue line better than up close. Sorry don't know if that would make a difference. :)

Dear Anon

Thanks for your question and welcome!

Firstly, no-one will ever judge you here, for any reason. Health insurance is a very hot and sensitive topic for all of us and many of us are uninsured or under insured so no judgments coming for us!

Secondly, we can't tell you if you are pregnant or not (your cycle may be very irregular or pregnancy is a possibility) but you said something about a digital test versus a regular test and getting 'very light blue lines' - are you saying both the control line and the pregnancy line were obvious - not matter how faint? If this is correct and you took the test correctly, then it would appear you are pregnant - can you clarify this for us?
