I am 51 and am on Junel FE to control bleeding that almost put me in the hospital for a blood transfusion due to my non exsistant iron level..it was so bad I had to wear 6-8 overnight pads at a time..i was lucky I could even walk!! My Dr. tried a D&C, it failed, a cryoablation, also failed...the Junel was my last option before a total hysterectomy. I've been taking Junel for the past 2 years..it seems to work most of the time. Some spotting I can deal with for a few days once in awhile. It's when I go off it for the 7 days that my bleeding is still so heavy that I need to wear 3 or more overnight pads at a time. I usually make it for 4-5 days before I go back on the Junel and it takes 3-4 days for it to kick in. Has anyone else had this problem?? I was told 51 was the average age of menopause..i thought I'd be done with this nonsense..!!! Does anyone have any words of wisdom???? Oh and I was told that I have fibroids and a large uterus(C-section at 41 with my daughter)yippee.... more good news!! Thank you all sooooo much!!! :-)

Hello mrschiti64,

I see that you have posted concerns about your history of heavy menstrual bleeding before, actually three years ago.

Uterine fibroids can cause menorrhagia, which is the medical term for prolonged and heavy menstrual bleeding.

Considering the tried procedures, D & C and cryoablation, have failed a total hysterectomy may be your best option.

Regards,
Maryann
