how do I find a surgeons success/loss rate for surgery?

I don't think these statistics are available publicly, you may have to ask the doctors you are interviewing for the procedure this question. He is obliged to tell you.
Bear in mind that the patient herself is responsible for her own success after the operation is over.

I do know that one in one hundred die from complications of the procedure. There is no such thing as "safe' surgery for anyone.
