about left inguinal ultrasound

Hi
Yesterday, my friend had a sonography. (She is 30, single).
My friend feels pain in her inguinal canal (especially when she walks a long road) for about 1 month. But when she takes rest, she feels no pain. Yesterday, she had a sonography of her left inguinal canal.

The result:
With Valsalva maneuver entrance of bowel loops to proximal part of left inguinal canal without evidence of strangulation.

What does it mean? is the problem related to her hernia? or what....?Can you help her? Does it need surgery? she is so nervous...

Thank you in advance.

Hello effat_english,

Thank you for coming to us with your question, but your friend must consult her physician regarding the ultrasound findings and any further recommendations.

"Without evidence of strangulation" means there is no evidence of constriction of the bowel. One potentially serious consequence of an inguinal hernia is incarcerated bowel. In this condition, circulation to the intestines and cut off an bowel dies.

Dear Maryann
Thank you so much for your comment. She will consult her physician for sure and I will let you know about that.

But, as you are so experienced and knowledgeable and I do believe you, what do you think about her problem? If there is no evidence of bowel constriction or hernia, what other problem she probably has? What is your diagnosis? I'd like to know your idea.

Thanks in advance.
Best,
Effat

Hello Effat,

Thank you for your compliments, but I cannot offer a diagnosis or provide anything other than general information.

Your friend's doctor is the person who will provide a diagnosis and prognosis and any treatment recommendations.

Regards,
Maryann
