Hi snq,

Infants and toddlers go through periods of growth spurts-- these are small periods where their appetite increases and they eat much more than usual. However, you should never force feed a child-- what you are actualy doing by force feeding him is creating a negative relationship between him and food. So, instead of feeding time becoming easier it will only get harder. If your child is not eating much and is a somewhat picky eater you should offer a variety of foods, serve him less instead of more--if he wants more he will let you know. Offer him a multi-vitamin such as poly-vi-sol and/or a nutritive drink such as pediasure. I can assure you that having a picky eater at one is quite normal and as long as he continues to have wet diapers and stooling regularly then he is eating enough.

Infants and toddlers are also quite regular so it's not uncommon for them to have bowel movements shortly after eating. Keep an eye out for diarrhea (Water stool), and note the color-- green, brown, yellow, or a mustard color are all normal in baby poop.

Best Wishes,
