At 38yrs, my weight is more than what normally should be (by about 15kgs). My period cycle is 100% corrrect on time. We are trying for child for last few years. Though I do exercise moderatly, the weight doest reduce.

Few years back, i was treated with medicines (Proficy) to increase the chances of conceiving. From then onwards, the weight started increasing and with no efforts, am able to control.

My cycles are normall painful.

Hi, Achyut,

So glad you wrote to us at EmpowHer. I empathize with your issues as I've experienced them myself. I believe I was estrogen-dominant as well. I had fertility issues, endometriosis (painful periods) and a similar pattern of weight gain.

Here is Tina Marcantel's article that she spoke of above:

as well as a few more articles and videos you may find helpful; two are from doctors and one from a woman who experienced estrogen dominance:

You first wrote to us this summer; have you seen a doctor or had any improvement? Please update us!

NO-ONE WILL LOSE WEIGHT UNLESS THEY WANT TO! Stop dieting; keep track of everything that you eat each day. Secret information will help you to get the body that you want. Each day keep your body properly hydrated with plain water and definitely limit your sodium intake. Keep mindless grazing to a minimum. Remember; eat to live, don’t live to eat! A daily regimen is needed by everyone and that regimen includes proper nourishment. Diets and diet aids do not help anyone!

I was one of those estrogen dominant women that Dr. Marcantel is speaking of. I craved sugar like mad. Once I got on some bioidentical progesterone (after I had a saliva test) my appetite started to return to normal. I also got my energy back and started an estrogen detox which I wrote about. I am still on the detox and it's working well.

From your description of your history and symptoms, it sounds like you are estrogen dominant--people who have difficulty getting pregnant and/or maintaining a pregnancy usually have low progesterone levels in ratio to estrogen levels. Higher estrogen levels can also lead to weight gain. I suggest you see a physician who is familiar with hormone balancing and who does salivary hormone testing (try checking the ZRT Laboratory website for more information). You might also want to take a look at my article "Estrogen Dominance: Losing the Healthy Hormonal Balance" here on Empowher.

You do need SOME amount of sodium in your system, as it is one of the essential electrolytes necessary to maintain healthy cell and organ function.

So, rather than avoiding sodium, cutting back, if your intake is high or if you have a heart condition, would be preferable.

Hormonal imbalance is believed by some doctors to be a contributing factor to weight gain among women, especially during menopause. However, you've indicated you have other issues.

Have you discussed your condition and concerns with your doctor?

I gained about 20 pounds whenever I went on birth control. Try cutting all soda and most sodium out of your diet. That helped a lot for me. I stopped eating potato chips, fast food, anything high in sodium and fat. Hope this helps!
