I have been noticing some changes in my body last May. But changes I could live with. Gradually I seem to be more irrational and had the feeling something was wrong with me. In the mean time I had a cysts removed from my breast . Everything was ok. Nothing was wrong but the panic and anxiety would not stop. It took over my life. I did seek psychiatric help, and she told me I was not a case of panic and depression she felt something elese was wrong. But something is still not right. I am 51 years and still looking for some kind of answer. Could perimanapause really be this bad? And If so what can be done about it.

Hi Cristine,
Thanks for your response. Yes, I am looking for a new doctor for two reasons. One, my doctor is not an ob/gyn and is in a big practice, so you never get to see him. Two, when I told his nurse practitioner about what was going on, her advice was to increase the dose of Ativan that I'm on, which is exactly the opposite of what I'm trying to do - which is to get off of it!

Hi Kimmie,
Good for you being so on top of your health! Kudos for following up with your doctor to confirm your suspicion. I hope it clears up things for you, and gives you peace of mind going forward. I think the key here is to remember that everyone is different. What works form one may not be the right solution for another--but you never know, it may be true for another also. A doctor can help you figure out the best path for managing your health. If your doctor doesn't answer your questions, or you're not satisfied with the level of care, search out a different one.
Good luck and let us know what you find out! Your experience definitely may help someone else.

Hi, I'm new here, but I wanted to tell anonymous that I've been dealing with the panic and anxiety also. I had been taking soy supplements for several months, and suddenly wondered if that might be the problem. I stopped taking them about three days ago and the difference is unbelievable. You didn't say you were taking any kind of supplements, but from what I've read you can still have estrogen dominance. When I read the symptoms of it, everything clicked for me. I'm still going to make a doctor's appointment with a new doctor who might actually test my hormone levels. You might want to do the same. My thoughts are with you. I know how hard it is.

Hi Anonymous,
Thanks for your question, sharing your experience and for being a part of the EmpowHer Community.
I'm sorry your seem to be having a rough go of it lately. Glad the breast biopsy turned out benign. Perimenopause, and menopause can be frustrating I've heard. Have you discussed symptoms with your gynecologist? They may be able to better help you develop a plan for dealing with whatever you're going through and alleviate some discomfort for you. I recently wrote articles about it you can check out here, and see if it's helpful: https://www.empowher.com/menopause/content/my-introduction-menopause-menopause-vs-perimenopause-and-hysterectomy-alternatives

Good luck, and please let us know how you're doing.
