Am I pregnant?

I had unprotected sex 7 months ago and I've had my period. I had unprotected sex 4 months ago, and I still had my period. 3 months ago I had unprotected sex as well. All 3 times I had sex, no semen came in contact with my vagina. The last time I had sex (3 months ago) I was fine. A few days later, my period came. A month later, my period came. But as of today, I am 10 days late for my period. The first period I've ever had was maybe a year ago. And my period has never been late before. So now I'm freaking out because there's a possibility I'm pregnant, considering my period is late. I have been stressed lately, so that may be a cause of "no period" too. I haven't had any spotting or anything. There's no sign of blood at all. I haven't had cramps or mood swings. I'm just freaking out because I'm too young to be a mother, and id like to pursue my dream of finishing high school and going to college. I really need help because I just do not want to be pregnant.

Hello Rose_Lynn,

Welcome to the EmpowHER community. I am glad you reached out to us with your concern.

It is imperative that you start using birth control. Either your partner wears a condom, each and every time, from start to finish, or you must choose and use some type of birth control. Being sexually active without protection is playing with fire.

If you have not had unprotected intercourse since your last normal period, pregnancy is not possible.

Other causes for a late period include high stress levels, extreme exercising, extreme weight loss or weight gain, illness or some type of hormonal imbalance. Though you began menstruating about one year ago, your hormone levels should have stabilized and up until now, your periods have come monthly.

All that I can suggest is to try to relax and wait. If you do not get a period by the end of this month, contact your physician, who can order blood tests to check hormone levels.

Regards,
Maryann
