This boy at school put his hands down his trousers. I then shook hands with him (ew) and later that day I touched my vagina. On a different day I just touched my boyfriends hands and then touched my vagina shortly after. Both times their hands were dry. But how do I know they didn't have sperm on? (As sperm are microscopic) please help.

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. I am so glad you came to us with your questions.

No, you were not at risk of becoming pregnant with either of those situations.

You are correct. Sperm is microscopic. Sperm makes up about 5 to 10% of semen, which is ejaculated from the penis. You would know if there was any sperm on the young man's fingers because you would see semen.

Sperm can live outside the body for about 20 minutes. Once the semen has dried, sperm is dead.

To better understand how pregnancy occurs, please take a look at this slide show.
