Another "Pregnant? or just Stress-induced missed period?" question
The start of my most recent period was on Feb 26 - projected ovulation date being March 14, projected next period March 28 (via MyMonthlyCycles, where I have been keeping track of my period for 1 year). Average cycle - 30 days.
We had protected intercourse on March 3 and 24. The condom didn't break; slipped down maybe an inch but we pushed it right back up.
Now my period is 3 or 4 days late (depending if you count the 28th), with no usual signs of cramping etc that I normally get. Took two HPT's and both came out negative. Discharge looks normal, no tenderness of breasts or anything. I have had a little bit of an upset stomach but I think I may just be getting sick - I am under quite a bit of stress.
I know it's unlikely that I am pregnant, but I am paranoid since I can't afford to have a child right now. I have heard that stress really can throw off a regular period (I have been regular for 8 years now), but I have a hard time believing it since I am so paranoid... help? I don't know what's wrong with me!
Have a GYNO appt coming up in a month, but I'm the type of person who likes to know without going to the doc! It sure would be nice if my period would come!

We are both very in love and intimate so of course we would like to use birth control, but we are young and i wouldn't know how to get any besides the condoms that i have, though we have never made a move towards having actual intercourse. do you know of any birth control we could have access to? also, thank you so much for reassuring me. i just really want her period to come because the stress and worry is hurting our relationship. if you had any advice on what i could tell her to help relax and reassure her, i would greatly appreciate it. again thank you so much, you have really been helpful. - Jason
I don't understand why, if you say, " we have never made a move towards having actual intercourse," that you are "freaking out" about a potential pregnancy.
How else could she have been inseminated?
sorry to seem so desperate, but i am really freaking out. i know it doesnt make logical sense that she should be pregnant, but i just cant stop thinking about what if she is and the worry is making me sick. i wouldnt know at all what to say to my parents. i am really stressing and want her period to be here right now, waiting and waiting like this is literally making me sick. do you know of a way she could get a pregnancy test, just to get that question out of the way? thanks - Jason
Jason,
You can't worry like this. If you haven't had intercourse, or even close to it, then she cannot be pregnant. It just can't happen. And if you can get yourself to be calmer, it will help her. You need to reassure her that you know she's not pregnant and that her period will come soon and that it'll be fine. Because stress can make a period later, did you know that?
If you both need her to take a pregnancy test to find out, you can buy them in the grocery store, drug store or any large store like a Wal-Mart or K-mart. You don't have to have permission to buy them and they are not in a glass case or anything. The generic ones are as good as the name-brand ones. But you want to get one that tells you as soon after a missed period as possible.
However, will you stop freaking out if the test is negative but she still doesn't have her period? It sounds to me that no matter what the test said, you will still be worried until her period comes. And believe me, Jason, this isn't the first time in your life that you're going to wish someone's period would just hurry up and get here. Or hurry up and get over with. Or just plain go away. (Now you know a little bit about how we feel.) It is on its own time frame and there isn't anything you can do to hurry it or delay it. It just doesn't work that way.
In terms of birth control, you also can buy condoms over the counter. You know that, right? They have to be used correctly and 100% of the time, but they are a LOT better than using nothing and worrying. However, you're worried right now and you didn't even have intercourse. So I'm not sure that even condoms would make you feel better right now.
Are you worried that she has been unfaithful?
Okay, so I'm freaking out. I am 19 years old, and I never have regular periods. I actually stopped having them for a few months back in high school because of an eating disorder I was dealing with at the time. However, after getting over all that my periods still are always messed up. I was on birth control to help regulate them, but then this big mess with my insurance plan came up so I didnt have any way to pay for the pills. So then I went to planned parenthood the begining of last month and had a check up and they gave me pills for my next peirod. However, my last period started on May 29th..and I am still waiting on my July one... I am sexually active, but my boyfriend and I always use a condom... but this one time on June 9th we messed around for about 10mins without a condom..so that worries me about possibily being pregnant.
Also I know exercise and stress effect it..And my grandpa has been very sick with cancer and it has just been a rollercoaster with him the last few weeks. So I have been very stressed about that. And I have had a major increase in exercise. I havent missed a day at the gym throughout June. I just dont know what do to.. I dont feel any symptoms besides a slight nausea (but i get like that on my period most times) Any advice would be greatly apperciated!
