Hi! I am in need of help! I had the first day of my last menses last june 17 and I had unprotected intercourse last june 24. I took 4 pills of nordette on the same day and took another 4 pills 12hrs after which is june 25. I experienced nausea and cramps from the time i took the medicine. Today, july 1 I also had unprotected intercourse. After the deed, I experienced bleeding. Is that the withrawal bleeding from the pills? When will be the next regular menses? Is there a chance of getting pregnant? Thank you!

So does it mean that the pills which I took last june 24 and 25 will cover the whole cycle? Am I still going to ovulate on this cycle? I am very worried because this week is my fertile week. Is the bleeding that I am experiencing right now will assure me that I will not get pregnant or not? Thank you so much!

Hello Camille027,

A woman ovulates once a month. If you had not already ovulated, Nordette would have prevented ovulation from happening after June 24-25.

You should ovulate in July. Ovulation might be delayed but check with your gynecologist.

The bleeding proves you did not become pregnant.

Hello Camille027,

Welcome to the EmpowHER community. Thank you for your question.

The bleeding is breakthrough or between periods bleeding caused by taking Nordette. Your next period might start on time, or earlier or later than expected. Changes in the menstrual cycle are a reported side effect of emergency contraceptives.

You should not depend on an ECP as a regular form of birth control. ECP contain high dose of a synthetic hormone that appears to prevent pregnancy by preventing ovulation. You might still be protected by the June 24 and 25 doses. The bleeding showed the pill worked and I doubt you would have conceived today.

Again, your next monthly period will be the proving factor.

Regards,
Maryann
