ask: Are children really influenced by smoking in movies?
Not sure if you caught this story about how the American Medical Association is smoking mad about the new Hulk movie where the hero's nemesis smokes cigars in nearly every scene of the movie?
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/16/business/media/16smoke.html?_r=1&ref=h...
Are children really influenced by the media enough to have this organization angry? I can't imagine any child wanting to smoke a cigar ... Where do you stand?

You know, I absolutely think that what goes on in movies influences our young. How could it not? Fashion, makeup, body size and sexuality is all sold in movies and music videos. 'Product placement' is a vital aspect of many shows and films. That Coke can you see on a table or the pack of Marlboros casually picked up by an actor in a scene is all product placement.
Shows and movies like Sex and the City, Desperate Housewives and Hannah Montana often define what people wear, expressions they use or other lifestyle trends.
So someone smoking will also often influence viewers, especially if the smoker is good looking, successful and slim.
Maybe it's a good thing that the person smoking all the cigars in The Hulk is one of the bad guys.
