I am a 33 yr old female and I have been having different heart palpation.. fast heart beat to more of a fluttering feeling. I don't have this all day everyday, and some days I don't notice it at all. I really notice it during the evening. I had a Echo done and the cardiologist (per the nurse) said everything was normal. He also said that the presence of PFO was positive. I asked if there is something that I should be doing such as taking aspirin and the nurse said no. I want to be sure that I am everything I can to prevent future problems. I also had a thyroid test that came back normal. Any information is much appreciated!

Hi Anon,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Most people with a patent foramen ovale don't need treatment. In certain circumstances, however, your doctor will recommend that you or your child have a procedure to close the patent foramen ovale.

Best,

Daisy
