I was given this antibiotic by my dentist. I have had my period the entire time I was on it (day 5) Today (thursday) was my LAST antibiotic pill. My period ends tomorrow FRIDAY and I start my new pill pack on Sunday. I have been on the pill for 20 years. The lowest dose brevicon 0.5/35. WHEN I start my new pill pack on Sunday do I need back up Birth Control? If so for how long? Sunday will be day 3 with NO antibiotic.
ALSO please PLEASE can someone PLEASE educate the dentists about birth control and antibiotics!! I know several women who have gotten pregnant this way!
THANK YOU!

Hi Aida,

Thank you for your question. Just to play it safe, it would be best to treat this new pack of birth control pills as if it were your very first. Use a backup method, such as a condom, for two weeks. After two weeks you can just go ahead and stop using a back-up.

Wishing you the best,

Rosa
