Birth control and antibiotics

So on Wednesday night I had unprotected sex and he finished inside me, I've been on birth control for about 3 years and take my pill at a regular time so I thought it was fine but Thursday morning I woke up with strep. Yesterday I got antibiotics but I haven't taken them because they will make my birth control ineffective and I'm scared because I've heard sperm can last up to five days in the body. I really don't want to get pregnant but I also really want to take my antibiotics to not be sick anymore. Any ideas on what to do?

Guide

Hello and welcome to EmpowHer,
You need to be off the pill for a week or more in order to ovulate. Since you've been taking the pills for so long it is very unlikely for the antibiotics to effect it enough to enable a pregnancy. So take the antibiotics and the birth controls at the same time. Or wait a day or two more to start taking the antibiotics if you are still concerned.
