Bladder condition???

I have to get up three to four times during the night to go to the bathroom. I also have to void at least 6 times during the day. I'm 69 years old and have been very healthy. I'm a bit concerned as I may be losing potassium from frequent voiding??? Sometimes it's uncomfortable for me. Not sure if I'm having bladder spasms, or if I could possibly have over active bladder syndrome??

I was told I could come to your site to get helpful information and resources. I'm most appreciative of any information you can give me to help me sort this out. My mother had bladder cancer but did not die from it. I don't think that's an issue for me but, I thought you should know.

I do go to the doctor regularly for physicals etc...but haven't seen a doctor for my bladder issue..PS...no bladder incontinence issues

Thanks so much for advocating for me. I love this site!!

Hi Sharon,
You may meet the criteria for "Overactive Bladder (OAB)" condition, which is defined as having frequency to empty your bladder more than 8 times during waking hours and urgency to empty your bladder due to discomfort or pain. And, according to the Mayo Clinic, OAB symptom includes the need to, "awaken two or more times in the night to urinate (nocturia)".

Since you have a family history of bladder cancer, it would be highly recommended to see a specialist for your overactive bladder symptoms. I am sure you have seen the myriad of advertisements selling medication for "overactive bladder", but there are many treatment options beyond medication. The Mayo Clinic offers a detailed list of treatment options for OAD.

Do you have a Urologist that you can make an appointment with?

Dear Sharon,

I know how you feel.... I have similar bladder issues. I've found a great doctor in LA who's helped me. I'd be happy to give you her name if you're interested. She's one of the best in the Country for urinary issues. Ninety five percent of her patients are women. Her office staff is amazing and I had all the tests done right there. She was attentive and took her time explaining what was wrong with me. Her name is Dr. Karen Eilber in Santa Monica, California. I would highly recommend her.

I'm sure other women in our community will get back with you, and no doubt our moderators (advocates) will give you all the resources you could possible need.
Let us know if there's anything else we can help you with. That's what we're here for.

Best in health,
Michelle
