Bleeding during intercouse

I am 46 years old and my periods are becoming shorter. However, I had intercouse with my husband and I bled as if someone had cut me. I do not know what caused it but now it is making me afraid to have sex again. I have a history of fibroids and don't know if that could have caused it. I do sometimes bleed during sex but not like this time. Very scared

Guide

Hello and welcome to EmpowHer,
The most common cause of vaginal bleeding after sex is friction on the cervix without proper lubrication. Women who are premenopausal or postmenopausal can experience low estrogen levels that cause vaginal dryness ad lead to bleeding after sex.
Other causes can include but are not limited to:
--inflammation of the cervix
--endometrial or cervical cancer.
--pelvic inflammatory disease
--uterine fibroids or polyps
--infection

I highly encourage you to get a pap smear as soon as possible.
Below I have pasted a HER article that talks more in depth about the causes of vaginal bleeding after sex.

I hope that helps.
