I'm 16 and have only been with one guy. We have been together for just about a year and have had sex many times before. Last month I don't remember getting my period. This month (December) we have had sex about 4 or 5 times the last 2 I started bleeding during intercourse. I also Noticed bleeding when I used the bathroom (#2). I don't bleed after at all just during. I also have no signs of being pregnant, and me and my boyfriend are very safe about sex.

Dear Anon,

Thank you so much for visiting the EmpowHER community and for sharing your question.

Noticing blood after intercourse can be very alarming and I am glad that you turned to the community for advice.

Vaginal bleeding after sex is not something to take lightly. There is a laundry list of possible causes. At your age, most likely it is infection of the vagina or cervix or possibly pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). There's no way for me to tell you what it is over the Internet, you should schedule an appointment with your doctor right away. An infection left untreated could have consequences.

Here’s a rundown of some of the reasons for vaginal bleeding after sex.

Did this help Anon? Will you call your doctor right away?

Best,

Kristin
