I'm 19 and was on birth control for about three years to regulate my periods. I got off of birth control 8 months ago and my periods have been irregular since then. At first they were very light, but over the past couple of months they seemed to be getting heavier until last month when it never came. There no possibility I could be pregnant (no sex) and I'm not especially surprised that my period is late (about 3 weeks late). What gets me is that I seem to be experiencing intense prolonged pms symptoms that are just getting worse. About three weeks ago I experienced a few days when I was incredibly dizzy. Sometimes I still feel dizzy but it's not that bad. Now I'm just bloated and getting more bloated. I've been having bm's about once a day but my lower abdomen still sticks out and feels very solid when I press on it. I've gained about 4 pounds even though my diet hasn't changed and I work out regularly. I've been feeling tired and depressed.

Hi anonymous,
July 12, 2010 - 8:46amThanks for your posting, and for being a part of the EmpowHer Community. Your symptoms concern me, not sure what it could be, but think maybe you should call your doctor's office and speak with a nurse. I'm not sure if they'll tell you to schedule an appointment, or to wait for your next period which should be due soon, right? I know I had irregular periods at 19, and often skipped it altogether in the summer months. I was prone to ovarian cysts now and again. I don't know what you have going on, but your doctor would be able to tell you more. Since you were on birth control you probably have one.
I'm curious, why did you stop taking the birth control pill? What is your lifestyle like? Do you work out regularly? What types of foods do you eat? Besides for your current condition, are you generally a healthy person and maintain a healthy weight complimentary to your height? I look forward to your reply, and learning what the doctor's staff tells you.
