Hello,
This past weekend, I've been dealing with traumatic issues. I've been on emotional roller coaster: breaking up with the love of my life and finding out stuff that has caused me so pain. I've been having emotional breakdowns and cry sessions since Early Friday morning.
A little background one me: I've been on Tri-Cyclen Lo birth control since March. And I've been taking my pills almost perfectly.
On Saturday (yesterday), I noticed some brown/bloody discharge. Since I had this before, I only assumed that it was just my body cleaning out it's system. Yesterday was also the last day of my regular pills.
Today, the first day of my placebo pills, I notice I am bleeding. I never had my period this quickly on my placebo week (it's only the first day). I have heard Stress causes breakthrough bleeding, but I'm confused on what this means.
I also want to know if this breakthrough is caused by stress, will I still have my normal period this week since it is my placebo week? Or did the stress cause my period to come early and will be I okay and back to normal once I start my new pack next Sunday?
If anyone can help me what's truly going on, that would be great. I doubt that I'm pregnant because we always used a condom even though I was on the pill. I'm pretty certain the stress is playing pilot on this one but I just don't know the process.
Thank you!

Hi Anonymous,
Stress is a factor in many different issues with our bodies including periods. Since you are going through these hard times, you can pretty much bet that it is due to the stress that you are going through.
Yes, you should still start your pills as normal. Your best comfort would be trying to deal with the stresses in your life and your period and body should resume it's normal routine. Stress can cause a multitude of issues and combating this would certainly be beneficial. Have you ever thought about a new exercise regime or hobby to try and keep your mind off your stresses? Exercising is a great way to combat stress and depression due to traumatic things in life.
I wish you the best and keep in touch.
Sincerely,
