Q:

Breast fuller sign of pregnancy or pms?

I had my first day of period last August 1, average cycle is 26 so next cycle will be in 6 days. Had sex on the first day of period (August 1) with condom and no ejaculation inside. Then after a week maybe August 8, I felt that my breast felt fuller/bigger and nipples are not that soft anymore. Is this one of those pms signs but too early for pms? Cause usually I felt pms symptoms just days before my period. Or my hormones having imbalance for the meds I've taken last month for acid reflux, uti and skin rashes. Or is this an early sign of pregnancy?

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for reaching out to us with your question.

You would not have become pregnant on August 1 because you were having your period. There is a chance for pregnancy when you have unprotected intercourse just before or on the day of ovulation and not when you are having your period.

One week later, on August 8, you should have just finished your period. It was too early to be having PMS symptoms.

Not knowing what medications you took, it is impossible to say if breast fullness was a side effect. Check with the physician who prescribed the medications or ask your pharmacist.

You can rule out pregnancy and PMS as causes.

Regards,
Maryann

Thank u for taking the time to answer. I took antibiotics for 1 week along with omeprazole for two weeks. Antibiotics last day was July 31, omeprazole August 7. Another omeprazole for two weeks started 2nd week of July, with Benadryl and allerta for the rashes but took these meds for less than a week. Anyways, my period usually lasts for 5 days so there isn't really a possibility of being pregnant? Is it possible to feel pregnancy symptoms before ovulation? Searching the net for someone experiencing fuller breast and it always suggest being pregnant. This is my first time to feel significant changes in my breast. If not pms or pregnancy, hormonal imbalance or stress?

Hello Anonymous,

Premenstrual swelling and tenderness of both breasts occurs during the second half of the menstrual cycle.

More estrogen is made early in the cycle and it peaks just before mid-cycle. This causes enlargement of the breast ducts.

In a 28 day cycle, the amount of progesterone peaks near the 21st day. This causes growth of the milk glands.
