can a back problem cause urinary incontinence

i have suffered with severe back pain for around 6 years lately it has became much much worse and seems to be making me urinary incontinent what could this be

There could definitely be a link or association between lower back pain and urinary incontinence; one may not be "causing" the other, but whatever is causing your low back pain could also be having an effect on either your bladder or your pelvic floor muscles (which could lead to urinary incontinence).

There are many different types of incontinence, and it is important to have this condition medically evaluated. There is even a type of incontinence called "stress incontinence", where the muscles are weak (from surgery, or perhaps chronic pain that is not allowing you to appropriately use/strengthen your pelvic floor muscles?).

Other types of incontinence can be caused by certain medications, underlying medical conditions, infections, or pain...if the pain is preventing you from using the bathroom as often as you need to.

How are you being treated for your severe back pain? I am so sorry you have been suffering from this for 6 years! Do you have a doctor that you can talk to about your additional symptoms that may/may not be related to your back pain?
