I started feeling really sick to my stomach 48 hours ago and ended up all night in excruciating back and stomach pain - it was like having contractions when I gave birth. I did vomit all night and yesterday felt better...had a few pains, but still not feeling great. Now...I am back to having the waves of stomach and back pains (no vomiting) and man oh man does it HURT.

Hi,
Yes, you can have stomach pain from food poisoning or other causes, but I am concerned when you compare the pain to being as excruciating as childbirth contractions...that is very severe!
If you continue to have pain that you would describe as severe, you would be advised to go to your doctor, hospital or walk-in clinic. I want to make sure you have other medical conditions ruled out if you are having SEVERE pain after the 48 hours.
Food poisoning symptoms usually also include vomiting and diarrhea, but vomiting can also be caused from experiencing pain. Any symptoms of food poisoning that has reoccurred after the 48-hour time period, and symptoms are described as severe pain, should be medically examined. If you continue to vomit, you can also run the risk of dehydration, so it is always better to at least call your doctor today!
