Q:

Can I be pregnant?

I am on marvelon and have never had an issue before. Today I had spotting, a little red discharge followed by brown. In the month of Jan, I missed a week of active pills (but had no sex) then I was told that if I took it for 7 days I will be protected by the 25th, which is when I was meeting my long distance bf and we made love on the 25/26th. And I have been on the pill since the 18th Jan till now. I thought I had taken all the precautions so the possibility of being pregnant seems to be slim. Any ideas?

I had my periods between Jan 4-11th, I took pill on the 12th and then there was a gap between 13th-17th but I took it from 18th till today. Do I need to take a pregnancy test?

Hello and thank you for sharing your question.

You are right that the chances of being pregnant are very very slim.

One important element in this whole thing that you did not mention was: are you having this spotting between periods, or at the start of a period?

If it is between periods and unrelated to your usual menstrual bleeding then it is probably due to missing those days in January.  It is nothing to worry about though.

If you are having this spotting in relation to your menstrual bleeding this is completely normal and once again no need to worry.

In conclusion, keep taking your pills on a daily basis, you are not pregnant, and your period will return to normal soon.
