Hi, Chicago. Welcome to EmpowHer! And thank you for your question.

It sounds like you have been really irregular lately. Are you under a lot of stress? Have you had a big change in your life, or have you had any changes in your medicines, your diet or your level of activity? All those things can affect our cycles, and it sounds like yours has been all over the place recently.

So let's focus on the numbers.

April 30 - period (20 days late)
May 25 - period (26-day cycle)
July 5 - period late (it is now 42 days since last period)

I have two answers for you, and in this case I just can't tell you which one is right.

Answer one: Yes, you could be pregnant. If you had unprotected sex since your period May 25, and you're more than a week late, the chance definitely exists. And not everyone has symptoms right away.

Answer two: It's quite possible you're not pregnant but that you're just going very late again. Since you went 20 days late just a couple of months ago, it's quite possible that you are having some hormone fluctuations due to something that's going on in your life.

The only way to tell for sure is to get a home pregnancy test and find out. Have you tried doing that yet?

Are you hoping to be pregnant, or hoping not to be? Are you using birth control?

Hi, Chicago, and thank you for writing back!

If you haven't had sex since your period on May 25, and if your husband's hand was completely dry, then no, I would say you're not pregnant. I would say that you're just going late due to stress and changes in your lifestyle.

To be pregnant, some of your husband's pre-ejaculate or ejaculate must travel into your vagina, through your uterus and up into the fallopian tubes, where it travels to meet an egg around the time that you are ovulating. The sperm lives in the pre-ejaculate or ejaculate fluid. So if your husband's hand was dry, there would be no way for sperm to live there.

Getting married is a huge change in your life! It is common to feel a lot of stress around the time of the wedding and afterward as you get used to your new life. I think that you are just going late. I know that in my life sometimes when I was going through a lot of stress I would even miss a period totally. It didn't happen very often -- maybe twice or three times -- but it did happen. And I was irregular a lot.

If I were you, I would probably wait until July 25, when it is clear that you missed a whole period (if you go this late) and if you do go this late, call your doctor's office and see if they'd like you to make an appointment. You want to be sure there's nothing else going on (perhaps with your hormones) that is causing you to be so irregular. Your doctor may ask you about birth control, because the pill helps us regulate our cycles when they get really out of hand. Are you interested in learning about birth control? I know you said that you don't want to be pregnant now, so with a new husband and aims to fulfill, some kind of birth control would be really smart.

Does any of that help?

hi diane!!!
i'm a bit relieved now..thank you for your valuable time...what are the chances of pregnancy if my husbands hand were just a bit wet ?.. as the incidence took place on 24 march..by this time i must be 14 week pregnant if i had conceived...if at all im 14 week pregnant i should have had atleast one or the other pregnancy symptoms like nausea, morning sickness, also i had two periods after that,no head ache,no cramps,no tender breasts..and nothing related to pregnancy symptoms...except the complaint of late period...
this was the only thing which made me get confused..
thanq...

I got whati think is my period however for a week and a half I have had very predominate prego signs now that I have my period they have Deminished however still feel a little nauseated at times can I be pregnant?

Alison Beaver

What symptoms are you experiencing? Since you have had a period, then you are not pregnant.

"prego signs" are hormone-related, and are very general that they can be related to anything: upcoming period, ovulation, stress, digestive distress, illnesss, etc.
