Q:

Can I get pregnant from manual sex?

My boyfriend and I engaged in manual sex yesterday. He fingered me first and then I gave him a handjob. He ejaculated and as we were nowhere near water...we just used tissue. Later we both washed our hands. A few hours later he started to finger me again...it was in the same place he ejaculated last time. I am worried about pregnancy. I know and I've read several places that say it is impossible...but I'm still freaking out.

Hello Unknown-108,

I really wish you had not taken Plan B.

Emergency contraceptives ar4e very strong pills. They contain a high dose of a synthetic hormone that prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation. They can also cause changes in the cervical mucus and lining of the uterus. ECP can upset the normal balance of hormones that regulate the menstrual cycle.

Even if your partner thinks he might not have washed his hands, as I said in my first reply, sperm can live outside the body for about 20 minutes.

Wiping the semen off with a tissue and not engaging in fingering until a few hours later eliminated any risk for sperm from entering your vagina.

Unknown-108, do not be surprised if your next menstrual period starts earlier or later than expected. Flow might be lighter or heavier than normal. These are two possible side effects of Plan B.

Regards,
Maryann

Is it going to affect me in the future, and along the line?
I am scared now. I have been having backaches and also been feeling nauseous and like throwing up. Is this normal?

Hi Unknown-108,

There should be no long term effects from Plan B. It is important not to depend on it as a form of birth control and should not be taken more than once in a one month time period.

Some women do experience nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, tiredness, dizziness and headaches after taking Plan B. If any of these symptoms persist or worsen, you must speak with your doctor or pharmacist.

Regards,
Maryann

Hello Unknown-108,

Welcome to the EmpowHER community. Thank you for reaching out to us.

You were not at risk for becoming pregnant because we both eventually washed your hands and had no further genital contact until a few hours later.

Sperm can live outside the body for about 20 minutes. Once semen has dried, sperm is dead.
Hand washing removes any semen on fingers and hands.

Is it true that by wiping with a tissue could also kill the sperm?

Hi Unknown-108,

Wiping with a tissue removed the semen which contains sperm.
