I had my fallopian tubes removed due to multiple etopic pregnancies. I still have my ovaries, so can I still get pregnant?

The symptoms you describe can be many different things: pre-menstrual syndrome due to upcoming period, pregnancy, constipation, bloating/gas, upset stomach, hormonal changes....

Have you missed your period? If so, how late is your period? What is the "small show" that you had---was this light bleeding or spotting? How long did it last?

Many/most women do not have early pregnancy symptoms until after a missed period. Lower stomach pain, weight gain and full bladder do not occur in pregnancy until much later in the pregnancy; hot flashes and night sweats are typically signs of premenopause, menopause or other hormonal changes.

I had one of my fallopian tubes removed and half of the other one and I would like to know if there is a chance of me getting pregnant without invitro?

I had one fallopian tube removed then had half of the other removed and was told i'd need ivf, fortunately after 7 years I got pregnant without medical intervention. So there is hope and it is possible

Hi, Anon, and thank you very much for your question.

Without at least one fully functioning fallopian tube, there isn't any way for an egg to reach the uterus. I am assuming that after your surgery, the end of the half fallopian tube was either cauterized or banded or both? Is that correct?

With that in mind, you would need to use in vitro to get pregnant. The egg and sperm have to have somewhere to meet so that the egg can be fertilized before it's implanted in your uterus. Without the other half of that remaining fallopian tube, it seems impossible that this could ever happen naturally.

What did your doctor tell you at the time of your surgery?

Hi Anonymous,
I'm sorry they had to remove both her tubes. I'm very glad to hear your wife's tuberculosis is being treated.

IVF success rates at 25 are generally excellent. The Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) tracks the success rates of most infertility clinics across the country. You can find this information as http://www.sart.org/frame/detail.aspx?id=3893. As you review this information please remember the most fertile man and woman have a 20% chance of conceiving the old fashion way.

If you don't have insurance coverage to cover this procedure, I hope you will visit the Fertility Within Reach website, www.fertilitywithinreach.org.

Best wishes to you both,
Davina

Anon - Yes, as long as your wife has her uterus and ovaries she may be able to get pregnant via IVF treatments.

Pregnancy Questions And Answers has information on this including a chart and 'map' of the reproductive system to help you understand further.
