Can I use a tampon while on my period if I have a prolapsed urethra?

So I am only 20 years old and I was just diagnosed with a prolapsed urethra, not completely prolapsed yet but enough to see it. I've only had one vaginal birth at the he of 18 but ive always got UTI's and infections frequently. The doctor was in such shock because its very uncommon in general and VERY rare in someone my age with only one child. Anyways I just got my period for the first time since being diagnosed and I wasn't wondering if it's safe to wear a tampon? Like I said my urethra is not potruding out but the prolapse is there. Please help !

Hello Anonymous,

To be safe, until you can speak with your physician, use a sanitary pad.
