Hello Anonymous,

This is a very good question.

According to Christina Lasich, MD, "the link between spine disease and sexual potency has long been a subject of speculation, but the mechanisms remain unclear and research enthusiasm is lacking."

She cites a recent study (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21912318) which concluded that the incidence of erectile dysfunction in patients younger than 50 years with nonfracture-related lumbar spine disease undergoing surgery without risk factors was 34.3%.

Regards,
Maryann
