Can over-eating and obesity be an eating disorder?

Over-eating can absolutely be an eating disorder. We all overeat at times - at parties and at festive occasions. 

But compulsive over-eating is a different thing altogether. This is where eating is out of control and a person feels unable to stop binging on food. This is not an occasional thing - this is a regular occurrence. 

People can feel guilty, depressed and feeling physically ill after these binge episodes. Sometimes this is a daily occurrence. 

Like any eating disorder, a person often needs help (therapy and nutritional guidance) to learn how to eat healthfully.
