can we be pregnant

My fiance and I had sex on new years eve and new years day she started her period. It lasted a day like normal and was heavy. A day later she took a home pregnancy test and it showed positive. Is this a true reading or is there something that might show a false positive results? Should we try another test now since it's later down the road. We want a baby but I'm not sure this is a positive reading and don't want to discourage her about it. The biggest question is , can it be true to have intercourse and get ur period and still be pregnant a day or to later without us doing anything since before her period.

Hi Anon

To get pregnant after a period without having had sex after the period isn't possible, unless her bleeding was for a different reason, especially if her period was due at the time.

But a false positive is rare - I would test again - use a digital test to be sure - so that you know. Anything else will keep you guessing.

Let us know how it goes and good luck!
