Hi Anon

Thanks for your question!

Because one function of the thyroid is to regulate the metabolism, removal of the thyroid can disrupt this and cause weight gain, rather than weight loss.

How long has it been since you had your thyroid removed, Anon?

I assume you are on replacement therapy for your thyroid - something like Synthroid? You will always need to take replacement medications or you are very likely to gain weight.

As long as you eat well, take your meds and exercise, you should be able to control your weight!  But weight loss itself is not a side effect - rather once you get your hormone balance under control, any weight you have previously gained should slowly come off.

Good luck with everything!
