Peanut butter makes the list of foods to avoid on a low potassium diet.

Guidelines for low potassium diets limit total consumption to 1,500 to 2,700 milligrams of potassium daily, but you should always follow your physician's instructions.

Unfortunately, foods that are high sources of protein are also high in potassium.
